I’ve trekked through a topography of longing for many miles now. Not that I haven’t detoured for times into the hills of hope, the coastlines of calm, the grasslands of gratitude, even the deserts of delight. And I have stood at moments on the mountaintop of love. For who could not find these respites with the birth of their children? Or the visit of a friend? Or even in the mirage of a mediocre marriage?

But the landscape of longing has persisted through the years. Buried deep in my heart. For places on this journey, for paths I have never traveled, left in the past. For the pieces of myself that I have never found. And now, after all these years, I am leaving that landscape of longing behind.

Whether it’s fifty years and maturity, the lottery of luck, or the collision of both, I find myself in the territory of fulfillment. At the validation of pursuits, at the destination of self-discovery. In this amazing passage called life, I am finding myself. Finally.
